Warriors could face FIVE week wait for final game as bosses reject call to bring forward Bath finale

WARRIORS will face a month without a fixture after their request to bring forward their likely basement battle finale with Bath was rejected by Premiership Rugby chiefs.

The Sixways side will bring the curtain down on their 2021/22 campaign on Saturday, June 4, despite a request from both clubs to bring the fixture forward three weeks to Saturday, May 14.

Warriors sit just a point and place ahead of basement side Bath and both sides now have free dates in May after they were eliminated from the EPCR Challenge Cup last weekend.

But despite no relegation from the top level this season and a limited potential impact on the final Premiership table, Warriors and Bath were told by their fellow clubs the match could not be rearranged.

The decision could mean clash with Saracens at Sixways on Saturday (April 30) could be the last match for Warriors for five weeks. Should Warriors beat Gloucester in Wednesday’s (April 27) Premiership Rugby Cup semi-final, they will face either London Irish or Leicester Tigers in the final in May – the date to be confirmed.

Warriors chiefs have also confirmed the club has accepted the ruling of an independent panel of a 20-0 defeat against Gloucester following the cancelled match on March 25

In accordance with the Premiership Rugby regulations Sport Resolutions was asked to form a independent panel to decide the result of the match, chaired by Rt. Hon. Sir Gary Hickinbottom. He was joined on the panel by Carol Couse and Jonathan Rennie.

Warriors were unable to field the required six front row players for the Premiership match, resulting in the cancellation of the fixture.

In addition to the 20-0 victory, Gloucester have been awarded five points from the match.

Premiership Rugby will publish the full judgement when completed by the panel.

On the field Warriors go into this week’s Premiership Rugby Cup semi-final at Kingsholm and the Saracens clash on the back of a 41-12 reverse at Wasps on Saturday (April 23).

Warriors spent long periods in Wasps’ territory but had only two second-half tries from Harri Doel and Ted Hill to show for their efforts while Wasps were clinical from their more limited attacking opportunities and scored six tries.
