Team event produces impressive scores

APPALLING weather greeted the competitors as Broadway Golf Club members took part in the Gloucestershire County Golf Partnership Club Team Championship.

The teams of four battled on regardless and, with two best scores to count on each hole, there was the opportunity for some impressive point accumulation.

Winning team Barry and Louise Folkes, Ben Beacham and Irene Hawkes carded an impressive 87 points.

Second were Steve and June Griffin, Fran Andrews and Dave Morris with an excellent 86, ahead of third placed Dave Sadler, Chris Parkinson and Doreen and Tony Reeve with 83.

The winners will go on to represent Broadway at the County Stablefored Area Final at Cleeve Hill Golf Club on Sunday, June 25.

THIRTY-FOUR Broadway ladies supported the Charity Stableford, for which the weather was fair, albeit a little on the breezy side.

Sonia Ward led the Silver Division with 38 points ahead of Julia Fortescue on countback. Jayne Rose was third with 34.

Irene Hawkes took the Bronze Division by storm with 40 points, leaving Jude Vidler second with 34 and Camilla Haines third with 33.

Donations on the day amounted to a fabulous £101.50 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Division One and Two Medals featured 80 Broadway men. The course was in superb condition and the weather glorious, giving all players the ideal start to the day.

In Division One, Richard Tate took top spot with 67 nett and a lowest gross of 71. Also with 67 but narrowly edged out on countback were second placed Les Carter and third placed Chris Hands.

In Division Two, George Gavin carded 69 nett to clinch first place ahead of Ken Major, who equalled the score but lost out on countback. Arthur Gray was third with 71 nett.
