A FABULOUS week of golf began in style as 84 competitors arrived at Broadway Golf Club to play in the Men’s Open event, which was won by Ollie Storrer.

The spell of splendid weather continued and the Course maintained its superb quality condition as players began their 36-hole challenge.

Home player Ollie Storrer made full use of his local knowledge as he tore up the course with a magnificent 136 nett to take the Broadway Open title for the second year running.

Mark Saunders achieved second place with an impressive 137 on countback from third placed John Richmond.

Gross prizes were also awarded on the day with Matt Sollis achieving an excellent 148 to take first place on countback from visiting player Jack Drury (Cotswold Hills Golf Club) who took second. Bobby Webb was third with 149.

THE NEXT event on the golfing calendar was the Tony Sansone mixed trophy competition which took place on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Twenty pairs participated in the Greensomes Stableford, pleased to be playing for the award, donated in 2005 in memory of one of Broadway’s respected former members.

It was a very pleasant late summer’s afternoon and, with the course still playing exceptionally well, the points were there to be earned.

Ian and Judith Noyce triumphed with a tremendous 41 points, ahead of second placed Michael Alexiou and Fran Andrews with 40, closely followed in third by captain Jim Hutchison and lady captain Brenda Corfield with 38.

Jenny Bruton and Mark Magee were fourth, also with 38, but edged out on countback.

THE LADIES continued the busy week of golf as a field of 45 turned out to compete for the Kathleen Stockdale Trophy.

Donated in memory of the 1957 ladies’ captain, Kathleen’s husband presented the trophy in 1971.

Finding sterling form in the Silver Division was Linda Carruthers who brought in a superb 36 points to seal the win.

Frances Friend also shone with 35 points to finish second, ahead of Sonia Ward in third with 34.

Fran Andrews was the star of the Bronze Division as she stormed to the top with a magnificent 42 points, making her the trophy winner.

Andi Stedman brought in an impressive second place with 38 points, leaving Valerie Steven a close third with 37.

On the same day, Alma Harrison leaped to the top of the nine-hole leaderboard with 17 points.
