Rouse and McDivitt claim Foursomes win

THE MEN’S Daily Mail Foursomes got the ball rolling for the week at Broadway Golf Club.

Twenty-four pairs were participating in the local round of the National competition and, after a murky start, the teams were treated to some glorious sunshine and with the superb course conditions there were no excuses for low scores.

This was ably demonstrated by president Richard Rouse and his partner Warren McDivitt as they carded a magnificent 68 nett to seal victory.

Jim Covill and Joe Williams were pipped into second place with an excellent 68.5 nett, leaving Jamie Andrew and Richard Preen to clinch third place with 69 ahead of Peter Arch and Davie Drinkwater in fourth on countback.

The winners now await news of round two in the hope of getting a home draw.

With the qualifying season drawing to a close, the men were out again at the weekend to compete in the Division One and Two Medals.

It was a damp and dreary start to the day but, as the morning went on, the 60 competitors were soon treated to some warm autumnal sunshine.

Matt Sollis continued his outstanding form with a winning score of 68 nett to top Division One.

Close behind was Sam McPherson who achieved 69 nett to take second, also earning the lowest gross on the day with a superb 72.

Michael Metcalfe also brought in 69 nett, as did Robert Jones, but they finished third and fourth on countback.

Division Two was won by Neil Townshend with a tremendous 69 nett, with Bill Cook, Russ Ralph and Thomas Collins second, third and fourth respectively on countback with 71.
