Robins' trip to Halesowen is cancelled

EVESHAM United’s scheduled friendly at Halesowen Town on Saturday has been called off for health and safety reasons.

Paul Collicutt’s men were due to travel to The Grove face the Northern League Premier Division outfit.

However, delayed work on Halesowen’s pitchside fencing has caused the match to be postponed.

An Evesham spokesman said: “They are replacing perimeter fencing, but they were late starting and building work is ongoing. It would not be safe to play, so it has been called off.”

UNITED were beaten 3-0 by a strong Cheltenham Town side at the Jubilee on Monday.

A brace from Danny Wright and a goal from Mohamed Eisa secured victory for the League Two side, although they were flattered by the scoreline with the hosts deserving of a goal.

The first 15 minutes were fiercely contested and it was hard to tell it was a friendly at times as tempers flared.

The breakthrough came when Kyle Storer lofted a ball into the box, which was headed down by Will Boyle and finished well by Wright.

Evesham had a chance to level when Sellars was adjudged to have handled in the box but Adam Mann’s penalty was saved by Rhys Lovett.

Cheltenham had various chances to double their lead in the first half, including two Harry Pell free kicks which stung the palms of Kevin Sawyer.

Evesham, having absorbed pressure well in the first half, came out attacking and put the Cheltenham goal under siege. Lovett saved well from Mark Magee’s free kick as the pressure built and Magee also had a fine shot tipped around the post.

However, a moment of brilliance from Wright gave the visitors a two-goal cushion as O’Shaughnessy’s floated ball was superbly volleyed home.

Eisa then sealed victory with a beautiful curling effort into the top corner as the 550-strong crowd enjoyed the entertainment.
