GLOOMY conditions greeted Broadway Golf Club’s ladies as they began their England Golf Australian Spoons Foursomes but the grey skies soon gave way to brilliant spring sunshine.
Putting was a challenge on lightning fast greens but Pat Righton and partner Chris Moulder rose to the task to post a winning score of 30 points.
In second place were Esther Pettitt and Jan Titley with 28 points, ahead of Julia Fortescue and Julia Ward in third on countback.
The winning pair will have their score submitted to England Golf for consideration for the Regional Finals later in the season.
LATER that day the men’s 2017 B team fixtures kicked off with a match against local rivals Stratford GC.
Each team presented 16 players which included both clubs’ captains and professionals. The weather was mostly fine with a few showers and the course was in absolutely fantastic condition.
The Broadway boys took full command of the home fixture to secure a whitewash 8-0 victory.
B team captain Bernard Donoghue was thrilled with the support he was given and of course the perfect start to the season. He also expressed his congratulations to the greens, bar and catering staff who all contributed to a wonderful occasion.
