A RECORD 18 parishes took part in the Wychavon Parish Games cross country event sponsored by Schloetter Co Ltd.

The event took place on the parkrun course in Evesham as a record 99 runners finished the course.

Eckington won the event with 98 points ahead of Ashton-under-Hill (115 points) as both retained their titles from 2023.

Sedgeberrow finished third on 208 points just ahead of Evesham Twyford with the latter parish taking part in the Games for the first time.

Further back, Fladbury finished fifth with Inkberrow sixth and Broadway seventh.

The other parishes to take part included Little Comberton, Wick, Bretforton, Evesham Bengeworth, Badsey, Crowle, Harvington, Hill and Moor, Pebworth and Norton and Lenchwick.

Elsewhere, as part of this year’s Pershore River Festival, some 13 parishes also contested the bell boating event sponsored by Malcolm Limrick.

After two timed rounds, the teams split into three finals as five boats contested the A final.

Wyre Piddle emerged as the winners to take the title for the second year in a row with Eckington second, Hill and Moor third, Offenham fourth, Fladbury fifth and Inkberrow sixth.

Sedgeberrow, Wick, Broadway, Bretforton, Evesham Bengeworth and Harvington also took part in the event.

The petanque event, sponsored by Parsonson Planning Consultancy, takes place on Sunday, July 28 in the piste at Evesham Waterside.

And the knockout events will now begin to take place until October/November time.
