Prolific Conway to coach Town strikers

Liam Moakes 11th Oct, 2017

QUENTIN Townsend has ended a three-year pursuit of Chrisi Conway to bring the striker to Pershore Town – to help hone the attacking skills of his players.

Conway has joined the coaching team at the Midland League Division One outfit after a serious knee injury meant he will not play again this term.

Having tempted Conway from Bromsgrove Sporting where he was their all-time top scorer, Townsend says the striker will be pulling on a Pershore shirt once he gets fit next season.

In the meantime, he will help nurture the likes of new signing Alfie Bloomer, Mitch Butterworth and Callum Devlin to compete for places with leading scorers Jamie Clarke and Pavel Tomczak.

“I’ve been chasing Chrisi for three years but he has been loyal to Bromsgrove and played a big part in their success,” said Townsend.

“With him being out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury, it’s a chance to get him involved, rather than being sat at home on a Saturday.

“He’s a Level Two coach so he has got a lot to pass on. Given the number of young strikers we have, getting a player like Chrisi will be a real asset.”

Townsend is also looking forward to seeing Bloomer make an impact. The teenager featured for Bromsgrove Sporting’s first team last season as they became league Invincibles.

“Alfie looked lively on his debut at Uttoxeter and he has got a lot of potential,” added the Pershore boss.

“He is keen to learn and to wait his chance. I’m sure he will grab the opportunity.”
