Plans coming together as more commit to Robins

Evesham Editorial 4th Jul, 2017   0

FURTHER members of the Evesham United squad which reached the play-offs last season have committed to the Robins ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Bradley Gray, Lewis Binns, Sam Gilder and Leroy Odeiro all signed Southern League registration forms after the first training session of pre-season.

This follows hot on the heels of midfielders Ashley Williams and Carl Brown pledging to begin the season with Paul Collicutt’s side. Williams in particular will have a key role to play as the new player-coach.

Elsewhere, following the departure of Peter Sollis to take up a full-time role at Kidderminster Harriers, Ally Bulpitt and Allan Gough will be United’s new physio team.

Bulpitt has spent time with Bishops Cleeve and Gough was part of Cinderford’s Southern League Division One South & West championship-winning team in 2015/16.

Earlier in the summer the Robins lost prolific striker Lance Smith to Hereford, but since then influential keeper Kevin Sawyer has re-signed and last season’s captain Linden Dovey has also committed, whilst Matt Bennett, Matt Liddiard, Jordan Lymn and Greg Peel have arrived at the Jubilee from elsewhere.

Meanwhile, following their AGM in Southampton, the Evo-Stik League South has announced two clubs will be promoted automatically from the two regional divisions, which have been retitled South West – in which Evesham will compete – and South East.

This is due to the FA’s decision to introduce a new league at Step 3 level to add to the Southern Premier, Northern Premier and Isthmian Premier leagues for 2018/19. This new league will be more Midlands-based.

The Robins host Gloucester City in a friendly on Saturday (2pm) before entertaining Tamworth on Tuesday (7.45pm).
