PERSHORE 2nds defeated Nuneaton by 203 runs in their final game of the season to clinch promotion to Division One 2nd XI of the Birmingham League.
Victory at The Bottoms secured the 20 points necessary to keep runners-up Pershore a point above third placed Stratford.
Pershore amassed 249-4 off 45 overs, with Chris Miles’ unbeaten 102 off 106 balls the outstanding performance. Sam Cross also chipped in with a quickfire 65.
In response Nuneaton were skittled for just 46 as Lee Wilks (4-11) and Tom Pilling (4-15) did the damage.
Pershore 2nds skipper Jon Stickler said: “There was some pressure on us to win but the lads performed superbly. It’s a shame the 1st XI were unable to win and also gain promotion, but it’s been another hugely successful year for the club.”
As mentioned, Pershore 1st XI failed to clinch a top two finish in Division Two, finishing fifth after a seven-wicket DLS defeat at Halesowen, who finished runners-up.
The sides went into the match separated by just 13 points and the Plums knew victory would leapfrog them above Halesowen and secure second place and promotion.
However, it was not to be as Pershore were put into bat and dismissed for just 104 in the 46th over, with only opener Liam Ridings impressing with 51.
Halesowen then chased a revised target of 95 in 40 overs which they reached in relative comfort thanks to Jamie Harris (47no). Charlie Cross took 2-34.
