Nine on board as Town boss builds

PERSHORE Town have begun to assemble their squad for next season by confirming nine players have committed to the club.

Among them will be two new faces after former Westfields keeper Matt Gwynne agreed to join after spending last season at Worcester City, while centre-half Dan Noke will switch from neighbours Malvern Town.

Boss Les Jones has also been able to secure golden boot winner Matt Pinder and fellow hot-shot Nick Seabourne.

Pinder led the club goal charts with 16 goals, while Seabourne, who linked up mid-season, netted 15. Former Droitwich Spa and Highgate United forward Seabourne had also been dual registered with Coleshill Town but will now be focused on Town.

Joint supporters’ players of the season Curtis Townley and Jordan Hayward have also said they will be staying, along with captain and player of the year Joel Hobbs.

Ben Lane and James Baldwin, who also ended the season with Pershore to help them complete their great escape and finish 14th in the West Midlands League Premier Division, will also be part of the plans as Jones looks to build a promotion-challenging squad.

Pershore, meanwhile, are reportedly exploring the possibilities of asking to be switched to Hellenic League Division One West.

In the provisional non-League structure issued by the Football Association, Pershore remain in the West Midlands Premier.

They were moved across the step six structure from Midland League Division One last summer but neighbours Malvern Town alongside Wellington, Hereford Lads Club and Pegasus Juniors have now all been provisionally placed in the Hellenic League, which is based around Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Wiltshire.

Hellenic Division One West currently has 14 clubs and ideally the FA wants leagues to run with a minimum of 16 so talks could continue.

The 2019/20 West Midlands Premier will include: AFC Bridgnorth, Bewdley Town, Bilston Town Community, Black Country Rangers, Cradley Town, Darlaston Town, Dudley Sports, Dudley Town, Littleton, Pershore Town, Shawbury United, Shifnal Town, Smethwick Rangers, Wednesfield, Wem Town, Wolverhampton Casuals, Wolverhampton Sporting Community, Worcester Raiders.

Hellenic League, Division One West: Cheltenham Saracens, Cirencester Town Development, Clanfield, Hereford Lads Club, Kidlington Development, Malmesbury Victoria, Malvern Town, New College Swindon, Newent Town, Pegasus Juniors, Shortwood United, Thornbury Town, Tytherington Rocks, Wellington.

Leagues are subject to FA ratification.
