EVESHAM Golf Club stalwart Hugh Homer was joined by three generations of his family to celebrate his 91st birthday at the Fladbury club.

The family, including Hugh who still plays, was joined by 27 Evesham members for the nine-hole Homer Trophy competition which was won by David and Lesley Kewley and Michael and Yvonne Kriese with 54 points.

Second with 49 points were Audrey Tomkins, Ken Hardacre, Peter Gilbert and Ray Smart and third with 47 were captain Ian Tyrrell, Conryn Abbott, Graham Pulfer and Peter Ratledge.

JEAN BEVAN and Martin Williams won the EGC seniors annual Mixed Open, which attracted a full house in excellent conditions.

The course played very short due to the hard ground conditions and scores were high, with 45 the winning figure.

Runners-up were Lesley Curnock and men’s vice-captain Pete Moore with 44 points and third were Angela Fletcher and Geoff Wellens on 43.

Participants came from near and far, in particular a couple from Devon who arranged to play on their way home from a concert in Manchester.

Nearest the pin on the sixth were Bevan and Alan Davies and, on the ninth, Fletcher and Phil Andrews.

EGC ladies played a paired Greensome Bogey competition for the Ray Till Trophies – an interesting format enjoyed by all on a cloudy and warm day with the fairways were running extremely fast and greens being somewhat tricky.

Winners with an impressive plus four were Angela Fletcher and lady captain Patsy Brumage, closely followed by runners-up Eunice Allen and Stephanie Bartlett with plus three.
