Competition hots up at Broadway

Evesham Editorial 14th May, 2018   0

TEMPERATURES soared at Broadway Golf Club as teams competed in the Mixed Texas Scramble on one of the hottest May Day bank holidays on record.

With wall to wall sunshine and a course playing superbly, teams went out to enjoy their game and make the most of the perfect day.

All team members took their drives and then selected the best of the four shots to play forward. The person whose drive was chosen then dropped out for the next shot, with the format being repeated until the ball was down the hole.

Winners with an excellent 62 nett were club captain Bernard Donoghue and team-mates Debbie Donoghue, Judith and Ian Noyce.

Edged into second place on countback were Doreen and Tony Reeve and John and Sonia Ward. Third were Jan and Jim Titley, along with partners Jenny and Rod Brindley with 63 nett.

THE WEATHER had taken a much cooler turn the following day as a full field of ladies came out to support their Stableford and Millenium Veterans Trophy.

With the greens running well and plenty of roll on the ball, good scores were there to be made. In the Silver Division, Annabelle Carter secured first place with 35 points.

Linda Carruthers was second with 34 ahead of Lyn Chambers in third with 30.

The Bronze Division winner was Ange Sollis with 37 points, making her the overall competition winner too.

Jan Titley was second on countback, with Juliet Bourne third with 32. The best six eligible cards will be sent to Gloucestershire Veterans for qualification at County Knockout.

BROADWAY juniors once again impressed in their Stableford as Kyle Wright demonstrated his tremendous talent with victory with an excellent 49 points.

Joe Golding made light work of the course too as he finished second with a splendid 47 points, ahead of third-placed Sonny Nangle on 45. Ambrose Eaves was fourth with 44.
