Carter enjoys a profitable day

THERE was double delight for Silver Division player Annabelle Carter as she won both the Kathleen Stockdale Trophy and The Foundation Brooch on a memorable day at Broadway Golf Club.

Thirty-five of the club’s ladies were in action as they battled it out in the Stableford trophy event which represented the final qualifying competition of the season.

Donated in memory of the 1957 ladies’ captain, Kathleen’s husband presented the trophy to the ladies’ section in 1971. The brooch was also up for grabs on the day – supported by the ladies’ section by a donation to the Golf Foundation for the tremendous work it does in helping more girls to enjoy the benefits of getting into golf.

Whilst the day began on a dry note, there was a gusty breeze to contend with, which made play a little challenging for some.

However, Carter made light work of the conditions with a magnificent 38 points to win both titles.

Easing into second place was Elaine Hickin with an excellent 35 points, ahead of Frances Friend who recorded 33 points to take third.

Louise Folkes took top spot in Bronze Division with an impressive 32 points, ahead of Angela Sollis who clinched second place with 30 points and Bev Howard in third with 29.

Broadway’s ladies now move into the autumn/winter season when they have a packed schedule of both competitive and fun competitions to participate in.
