Evesham 27 Berkswell & Balsall 5
Midlands Two West (South)
EVESHAM’S fifth win in six matches lifted them into fifth place as they continued their positive first season at this level.
The Avonsiders were highly motivated and confident heading into this home fixture having won with the last kick of the game in the sides’ previous encounter in November.
The hosts were hungry for another win and, with momentum building, Evesham skipper Nathan Chambers emphasised the importance of starting quickly.
First half tries from centre Alex Jackson and two from Chambers helped the Vale side to a 19-5 half time lead but unfortunately the game became disrupted in the second period as ill-discipline set in and Evesham’s progress stalled.
However, when their opponents started to tire, Evesham scored the bonus point try through wing Scott Fairfax.
Evesham resume league action on March 3 at runaway leaders Droitwich, who have won all 16 matches.
