EVESHAM secured a vital 28-12 victory over Southam on Saturday to move themselves eight points clear of the bottom two in Midlands Two West (South).
The win lifted the rejuvenated Avonsiders two places to eighth as they leapfrogged their visitors and the Vale side can afford to breathe a little easier heading into the final quarter of the campaign, starting with Saturday’s (2.15pm) visit of leaders Kenilworth.
A combination of solid defence and effective counter-attacking play enabled Evesham to ease into a 15-0 lead at half-time through tries from Fred Hopper and Ash Icke. Tom Williams converted one try and added a penalty before the break.
Southam fought back in the second half with two tries, but Williams capped a fine performance at outside-half for Evesham by securing victory with two further penalties and a converted try all of his own making.
