BROADWAY Golf Club ladies enjoyed a day packed full of golfing activity when they competed in their Spring Texas Scramble followed by their annual spring dinner.

The morning had presented itself with some glorious sunshine as ladies made their way to their allocated tees for the shotgun start at noon.

As the klaxon sounded, teams of four took their drives and then, in Texas Scramble format, the best tee shot was chosen and then played by the remaining three team members.

Repeated over 18 holes, there were some stunning golf shots to choose from, giving teams the opportunity to score well.

The top positions were closely contested with only a small margin separating each. Annabelle Carter, Judith Noyce, Louise Folkes and Bev Howard edged into the lead with an outstanding 69 nett ahead of second placed Lin Andrew, Hazel Balding, June Griffin and Lesley Gee with 69.2.

Achieving a worthy third place with 70.3 were Sonia Ward, Jenny Bruton, Jenny Holt and Chris Moulder.

The ladies then went on to enjoy dinner, which was attended by more than 70 members of the section and guests.

After enjoying a sumptuous carvery, the long-awaited presentation of the 2016/17 Ladies Winter League honours took place.

It had been a hard fought contest throughout all six rounds and was only decided when ultimate winners Linda Carruthers and Liz Smith sealed victory in the final round.

The winning pair brought in a tremendous total of 138 points to give them a clear route to their prestigious awards.

Winners of the Maggie Wakefield runners-up goblets were Louise Folkes and Barb Buggin with an impressive 131 points.

The men’s Winter League winners were also honoured recently. The eight rounds had been exceptionally close and Will Livens and Paul Whelan fought hard throughout to win the crown, clinching top spot with 348 points.

Brian Wright and Davie Drinkwater battled hard too, finishing second on 347.

EIGHTY Broadway GC men competed in Division One and Two Medals. With weather and playing conditions near perfect, the scores were there to be made and in Division One Bobby Webb made light work of the course with a superb 68 nett to take first place, also achieving lowest gross on the day with 72.

Richard Tate was second with 69 ahead of third placed Mike Humpston on countback.

Junior member Scott Davis headed Division Two with 64 nett, earning himself a significant and deserved handicap reduction.

Russell Payne was second with 67, leaving Michael Harris third with 70 nett.
