Works to install new bridge set to get underway

Evesham Editorial 22nd Feb, 2022   0

A NEW bridge crossing over the railway is being installed, as part of major improvements to the road network in the Pershore area.

The works will start on Monday (February 28) install the new bridge, as part of Worcestershire County Council’s scheme to construct the Pershore Northern Link Road.

Initial works will see 12 beams delivered and lifted into place, across the railway line, over three consecutive nights. Once the beams are in place, works can take place to install the bridge deck.

Coun Alan Amos, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: “It’s always exciting when we construct a new piece of infrastructure in the county and it’s great that we’re now in a position to start the installation of this bridge.

“The bridge is a key factor to completing the Pershore Northern Link Road, which alongside other works carried out as part of the wider improvement scheme, will help to tackle congestion and improve journey time reliability in the area.

“The works are in coordination with Network Rail and taking place at night when the train line is less active. A very close eye will be kept on the weather, to ensure the beams can be lifted into place safely.”

To allow the bridge beam installation works to progress, there will be three-way traffic signals in place on the A44 roundabout, on each night from 8pm until 5am.

Works are subject to change if weather conditions are not suitable to carry out the installation.

The process of installing the bridge will be captured on a time-lapse camera and the footage will be made available once the works are complete.

These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area.
