THE WORK on a major improvement scheme in Pershore is now progressing well with the new railway bridge set to be installed in the coming months.
The project is being delivered by Worcestershire County Council on Wyre Road to improve the cycling and walking provision.
The works include a new cycle/footway on the northern side, the installation of a new kerb line, enhanced drainage and additional street-lighting.
The first 200 metres of the works from the Wyre Road Roundabout have been completed and works are continuing at pace on the remainder of the improvements.
Work is also taking place on the new Pershore Northern Link Road, which will provide a link from Wyre Road to the A44, including a new bridge over the railway line.
Works on the eight-metre high reinforced embankment walls north and south of the railway line are nearing completion, with the focus now shifting towards the installation of the new railway bridge.
Coun Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “It’s great to see these important works moving forward at pace.
“The improvements we’re making as part of this scheme will make a difference to journey time in the area for people travelling by car, as well as offering enhancements for pedestrians and cyclists.
“The works here are a key part of the council’s commitment to reducing congestion on the roads and improving walking and cycling routes throughout the county.”
The scheme, aimed at supporting economic growth and development in Pershore, received investment from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership via the Government’s Local Growth Fund.

These works are part of the wider Pershore Infrastructure Improvements Scheme, which aims to reduce congestion, improve traffic links and enhance cycling and walking routes, in and around the Pershore area.
As part of the scheme, works to deliver improvements at Pinvin Junction are already complete, with the overall scheme scheduled for completion this summer.
