EVESHAM Volunteer Centre has been awarded a £500 grant to provide its volunteers with much needed PPE and also help with its running costs.

The group received the funding after Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston nominated them for a cash award from Western Power Distribution’s (WPD’s) ‘In This Together – Community Matters Fund’.

The fund was established by the local electricity distributor at the start of lockdown to support grass root organisations deliver care to vulnerable people and families.

It initially supported more than 300 organisations with £500,000 funding. As the lockdown lifted, WPD extended its support by a further £250,000 and offered MPs the opportunity to put forward a community group or charity for a grant to help towards its work to support the community during these challenging times.

Helen Gray, Evesham Volunteer Centre Chief Officer said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to WPD for their very generous grant which has gone towards enabling us to carry out our services during the last few months to the people of Evesham and the rural vale.

“We would certainly not have been able to do all we have done without your support.”

Mr Huddleston said: “For more than 35 years they have been a crucial lifeline for vulnerable and elderly people in the local area.

“This funding will help them continue to provide vital support during this difficult time.
