They’re aiming to make a packet

Evesham Editorial 3rd Jun, 2019   0

A RALLYING call for the local community to save their used crisps packets has been issued by eco-friendly youngsters at St Egwins CE Middle School.

Members of the school’s eco help team have been collecting crisp packets to be sent to TerraCycle to recycle all of the crisp packets which would otherwise send to landfill.

So far the students have collected 3,300 crisp packets but would really like to aim to recycle 100,000 by the end of 2019. The school will raise £2 for every 400 packets sent to Terracycle and will use the cash to build a peace garden in the school grounds.

Donations can be made to local students or by dropping packets off into reception.

A school spokesperson said: “Although we are concentrating on crisp packets, they are just part of a much bigger problem, one piece of the puzzle, but they are something most children connect with and we are using this initiative to highlight the problem of non-recyclable packaging in general with our pupils.
