HUNDREDS of businesses and residents rallied round to turn Evesham pink all to raise money for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.
The day of fund-raising took place last Saturday when volunteers dressed in pink and took to the town’s streets to raise £598 thanks to the generous donations of Evesham shoppers.
‘Turn Evesham Pink for the day’ was organised by Kim Dunn from VECTA and breast cancer survivor Mary Campbell as part Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
More than 100 shops and businesses also joined in and got involved by hanging pink helium filled balloons outside of their shops to let shoppers know they were collecting donations for the breast unit.
Shops and businesses are continuing to collect donations until this Friday when the fund-raising total is expected to climb even further.
The final event of the ‘Think Pink’ campaign is taking place on Wednesday, November 1 at The Valkyrie. A ‘mega raffle’ will be taking place and the proceedings from the bar’s quiz will also be donated to the breast unit.
Organiser Mary Campbell said: “It was a fantastic result and is all thanks to the very generous supporters on the day.
“It just shows how Evesham rallies round when it is needed and provides great community spirit.
“The businesses in both Evesham and Blackminster have supported this event in their droves.”
