TAKE off for Bidford Airfield this Sunday, May 29 where the local gliding club is holding a Classic Wings and Wheels event – and all for a good cause.

Featuring a spine tingling flypast of a Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight there will also be flying displays by three local pilots while on the ground there will be some fantastic classic cars and tractors to drool over.

Even better, entry is free with a request for donations to local charity the Freedom Centre which cares for people with learning difficulties.

As well as the cars, tractors and aircraft, three special attractions for young people will also be laid on:

A Gliding Simulator, managed by Bidford Juniors, will give youngsters a chance to get behind the controls of the cheapest and easiest way to get into flying.

There will also be the chance to get a first look at the Royal Aeronautical Society FALCON 2 Challenge, which is aimed at encouraging schools, colleges, youth groups and apprentices to design a poster for a real-life mobile flight simulator accessible to those with a disability or special need.

The best design features from both age six to 11 posters and 11 to 19 posters will contribute to the build of a real simulator which will travel around the UK to schools and events.

Plus there’s a chance to discover more about the STEM High flyers.

This is a registered charity whose founders and volunteer supporters have been directly responsible for managing two complete aircraft builds in schools, including their flying display at major international events such as the RAF Cosford and Farnborough International Air Shows.

At the Bidford Classic Wings and Wheels event young people involved in building a Sherwood Ranger biplane will be there showing some of the work they are doing.

The gates to the event open at 10am, the bar at midday and as well as the classic wings and cars there will be plenty of stalls plus a barbecue laid on by a local farmer.

Bidford Airfield is located on the road between Honeybourne and Bidford.
