A PAIR of Evesham College students have completed three months of hands-on experience with an award-winning design company near Pershore.
Matthew Arthurs and Phillip Reason brought the curtain down on a placement which saw them involved in the design a real-life product, from concept through to final presentation.
Allowing students to become completely absorbed in the design of a child transport trailer suitable for events, theme parks and festivals, JMDA Design aims to inspire the next generation in product designers and engineers, and support education at a more in-depth level.
The experience forms part of JMDA Design decision to work with students in a more proactive way.
With a genuine real-life project to design a festival trailer suitable for parents to transport children and equipment around any theme park or festival. Matthew and Phillip worked onsite at JMDA one day per week, under the project management of design team members Elena Slobodyuk and John Walters.
Following the product design process from initial design concepts, the students expanded their knowledge of CAD and explored potential materials that could be used in the end manufacture of the finished product. The students were presented with a certificate and prize for their achievement.
Derrick Barker, creative director and managing director at JMDA Design said: “This type of work experience is designed to stimulate and create a catalogue of knowledge for young and inspiring product designers and design engineers.
“By supporting Evesham College we hope to enrich their student’s classroom studies, bringing projects to life.”
He adds “Phillip and Matthew are an absolute delight to work with and we’ve all been extremely impressed by their ideas. I will look forward to presenting them with their certificates of achievement later in the term”.
JMDA Design recently won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2019 plus a Gold award at the International Design Awards.
