A DISTURBANCE breaking out at HMP Long Lartin has led to injuries to six prison officers.

Highly trained ‘Tornado’ officers were called in to resolve the troubles which happened yesterday in one of the wings.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “Specially trained prison staff successfully resolved an incident at HMP Long Lartin on 30 September.

“Six members of staff were treated for injuries.”

Following the incident, seven inmates have been placed in isolation and will be transferred to other prisons.

“We do not tolerate violence in our prisons, and are clear that those responsible will be referred to the police and could spend longer behind bars,” added the spokesperson.

He added investigations were ongoing and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.

Last October the jail hit the headlines again following a riot in which inmates used pool balls to attack officers.

Specially trained Tornado officers were also called in on that occasion to sort out the situation.
