School system in Pershore to become two tier by 2027

EDUCATION in the Pershore planning area will become two tier system (primary and secondary) from September 2027.

Worcestershire County Council announced on today (Tuesday, January 7) that an agreement had been reached following a consultation process that began in September 2024.

The plan is to extend the age ranges of all the first schools to become primary schools starting with retaining year 5 in September 2025 and then year 6 in September 2026.

Middle schools in Pershore will no longer admit pupils into year 5 for September 2025, and Pershore High School’s intake will be expanded to accommodate all year 7 pupils in the area from September 2027.

The development follows a direct approach from schools in the Pershore area in 2020 after which the local authority has worked closely with schools and the Department for Education (DfE) to evaluate the risks and issues.

Councillor David Chambers, cabinet member for education at Worcestershire County Council said: “These changes mark a significant step forward in streamlining the education system in the Pershore area, ensuring children experience a smoother transition between school phases and a more integrated educational experience for students and families.

“Worcestershire County Council is pleased to be able to be working in partnership with decision makers to support this change that has been called for by the community of schools.”

The proposals will impact Abbey Park First & Nursery School, Abbey Park Middle School, Crowle CE First School, Defford-cum-Besford CE School, Fladbury First School, Pershore High School, Pinvin CE Academy, St Barnabas CE First and Middle School and Upton Snodsbury CofE First School.
