Sam raises more than £700 for Fire Fighters Charity

COMMUNITY and fire service representatives turned out to welcome fund-raiser Sam Cullis as he completed his fantastic triathlon effort at Evesham Fire Station on Saturday.

Mayor of Malvern, Coun Neil Morton and the chairman of Wychavon District Council, Coun Frances Smith, joined staff members from Tesco and crews from Gloucester and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Services who were there to greet Sam at the station on Abbey Road.

The young tree surgeon, who works for Network Rail, had begun his challenge at 6am, running two miles, cycling a further 10 and then carrying a 25kg bag of cement for the last three miles, all of which has raised more than £700 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

“I am a bit tired but still full of energy,” said Sam, who arrived at the station at 9.30am.. “It’s my way of recognising all the work that the fire service does.”

And Sam’s efforts are not over yet.

He will be on a static bike at Tesco in Evesham on Saturday (July 4) from 9am to 1pm when he will be collecting donations once again for the Fire Fighters Charity.

“We’re really grateful to Sam for his efforts,” said Group Commander Sam Pink from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, who was among the party who welcomed Sam.

“It is a very difficult time for our charity – as it is for so many others – and so the hard work of Sam and others like him is so important at the moment.”
