Remember your loved one at Christmas

Evesham Editorial 11th Nov, 2019   0

HUNDREDS of lights will be lit in memory of loved ones at moving hospice services in Evesham and Pershore as the annual St Richard’s Hospice campaign kicks off.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, there will be six special services, including two services at Worcester Cathedral on November 22.

The first one will be held at 2.30pm and the evening service at 7pm will be followed by a procession to St Andrew’s Spire where a Christmas tree will be illuminated by the dedicated lights of love.

Pershore Abbey will host a Lights of Love service at 2.15pm on November 28 and the hospice itself will be filled with Christmas carols at 7pm on December 19.

For a donation to the hospice, residents can dedicate a light to their relative who has passed away.

The dedicated names will be displayed around St Andrew’s Spire at Worcester Cathedral and in a book of remembrance at Droitwich Library.

Supporters can dedicate and donate online with their personal message also being displayed on the St Richard’s online Christmas tree.

Claire James, St Richard’s fund-raiser, said the charity was grateful for the support, adding the community services were deeply moving and comforting.

“Many people joining the services have had family or friends cared for by the hospice.

“We find each service unites people in their shared experience of missing a loved one, while providing support and solace through lighting a candle and taking time to reflect.”

Last year more than 2,600 dedications were made, raising £55,134 for the hospice.
