DEVOTED poppy sellers from across Evesham were honoured during an event held by the town’s Royal British Legion (RBL) at the St Egwins Club
The event last Wednesday (May 18) was pulled together by the town’s Poppy Appeal organiser Fiona George and community fund-raiser Mandy Clements-Hunt.
Certificates of appreciation were handed out by Mandy to collectors with experience ranging from five to 70 years of help before a buffet provided by volunteers from Working World.
The youngest recipient was 10-year-old Archie Brooks and the oldest was Doris Abbott, 88, who has been selling poppies for more than 60 years. Her two sons Leslie and Steven were also awarded certificates for their long service.
The audience was addressed by volunteer Philip Speed, who thanked Fiona and Mandy for the organising the event and for their outstanding contribution to the annual poppy appeals.
Coun Alan Booth, chairman of the Evesham Branch of Royal British Legion, said: “The RBL depends greatly on your work. This thank you goes out to all volunteers not just for five years and over but all who for the Remembrance period go above and beyond for a great cause.”
