HUNDREDS of visitors saddled up at The Valley for a free taster cycling event on a pop-up velodrome.

The Valley, formerly Evesham Country Park, played host to the StreetVelodrome series last Saturday and Sunday (May 23 and 24) to offer participants of all ages an exciting opportunity to try track style cycling right in the heart of their local community.

All equipment necessary was provided free of charge and pro riders such as 2014 champion Dave Johnson were on hand to offer coaching and guidance.

The velodrome was launched by Evesham’s own World Champion Duathlete and Triathlete, Helen Russell.

“It was a pleasure to officially open the Street Velodrome event at Evesham Country Park,” she said.

“A welcome sight to see the event so well supported by local families. Parents experiencing track cycling side by side with their children was magical!

“I am sure the weekend has inspired some to take up cycling as a serious hobby, and I am hopeful it has also encouraged families to get outdoors and be active over the summer,” she added.

The StreetVelodrome Series is a national televised tour aimed at finding Britain’s best amateur riders with competitive events held in towns and cities across the UK.

The series starts in Paisley tomorrow (Saturday) and concludes with a deciding final round held in central London on August 13.
