Pershore's community arts centre Number 8 to hold an open day

THE COMMUNITY-LED arts centre Number 8 in Pershore is throwing open its doors in a bid to encourage more people to get involved in the organisation.

The cinema, theatre and gallery space in High Street will be welcoming members of the public for an open day on Saturday, September 28, from 11am to 3pm.

The day will give people the opportunity to find out about the range of activities and events at Number 8 and how they can join in.

It will include behind-the-scenes tours of the centre, a display of costumes from Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) shows, and an opportunity to be entered into a prize draw.

Throughout the day there will be information on display about the venue which is a registered charity and staffed by over 230 volunteers. Visitors will get a better understanding of its activities, including those that aren’t always in the public eye such as school workshops, special screenings and opportunities for artists.

There will also be details on a variety of volunteering opportunities from working in the coffee bar to stewarding, with volunteers on hand to chat to anyone who would like to find out more.

Emma Bangham, programme manager at Number 8 said: “The idea of the open day is to encourage people who may not have been to Number 8 before to come along and find out what we’re all about.

“They can look around the venue, explore backstage, see some of PODS’ fabulous costumes on display and maybe even try on a few wigs.

“There will be tours of the building providing the opportunity to find out more about its history and volunteers to talk to for anyone who is interested in getting involved.

“We’re a friendly bunch so we’re urging people to come along and see what we have on offer for them.”

Admission is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
