A HARD-WORKING care assistant from Pershore has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for her exceptional dedication and commitment.

Netty Mitchell, who has worked at Sanctuary Care’s Heathlands Residential Care Home for more than 13 years, is in the running for ‘The Carer Award’ up against four other carers from across the UK in Hawker Publications’ National Care Awards 2016 which will be held on November 25 in London.

The 63-year-old said she had no idea she had been nominated for the accolade by residents and staff at the Station Road home.

“I’m in shock more than anything. I just can’t take it in as I don’t think I deserve an award. To me I’m just doing my job the very best way I can,” said Netty.

“My mother is 92 next month and I treat my residents the way I would treat her. We’re like one big family here, the staff, our residents and their family and friends,” she added.

Heathlands manager, Netty Matthews said: “Netty is full of happiness. Residents just seem to warm to her and smile as soon as they see her. She doesn’t see the gift she has and that’s what makes her so special and makes us so proud to work with her.”
