NURSES from Worcestershire’s hospitals are celebrating after being shortlisted as national finalists in three different categories for the prestigious Nursing Times Awards.

The judging panel for the Nursing Times Awards 2020 published their shortlist last week, with nursing teams from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in the running for three different awards.

The judges chose Worcestershire nurses as national finalists in the categories of: Care of Older People; Nursing in the Community; and Infection Prevention and Control.

The Frailty Team based at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch were chosen in the Care of Older People category after setting up a specialist assessment unit.

The service provides comprehensive care for thousands of patients over-65, preventing hundreds from being unnecessarily admitted to hospital each year.

Worcestershire’s Community Neonatal Service was chosen as a finalist in the Nursing in the Community category, after the team implemented a new seven-day neonatal community outreach service in the county.

Specialist nurses were also shortlisted for an award for their work alongside Bangor University in the Infection Prevention and Control category.

The team worked together with university lecturers to develop a custom-made online learning course for other nurses and healthcare practitioners on Infection Prevention and Control techniques.

During the most challenging year in the history of the NHS, Worcestershire nurses have been recognised for showing incredible innovation and resilience, while continuing to deliver new and improved services to the county’s population and beyond.

Chief Nurse for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Vicky Morris said: “I’m delighted that three of our nursing teams have been recognised for their outstanding work over the last year. Receiving this acknowledgement of the innovation and excellence of our teams gives our nurses a real boost after what has been an extremely challenging year for all our nurses.”

This year’s final award winners from each category will be announced on Wednesday 14 October.
