NIGEL Huddleston will be seeking to retain the Mid Worcestershire seat after being re-selected as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the snap General Election.
Mr Huddleston was unanimously re-selected by Conservative members in Mid Worcestershire last Friday (April 28) to be the party’s candidate on Thursday, June 8.
He was first elected in 2015, winning by an increased majority compared to 2010, and during his time in Parliament so far Mr Huddleston has sat on the influential Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.
The seat is seen as a Conservative stronghold, and the party has won here since the seat’s creation in 1983.
In the June 8 poll Mr Huddleston will once again go up against his Liberal Democrat rival, Margaret Rowley, who will be hoping for a liberal revival in Mid Worcestershire following her fourth place finish in 2015.
The Green Party and UKIP have not yet selected candidates to contest the seat.
Speaking after his re-selection, Mr Huddleston said: “I am delighted to have received the unanimous backing of my association and look forward to working hard alongside them during the upcoming General Election campaign.
“I reminded the association members that when I was selected at an Open Primary event in 2013 I promised everyone who attended, Conservative and non-Conservative supporters, that if I would be an active, visible and responsive MP; and I hoped that during the last two years as an MP I have proven that I am true to my word. I look forward to a robust yet civil campaign.”
