HAZELTON MOUNTFORD’S Mike Douglas flew into action to collect cash for a very special cause as he raised £1,870 for Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham.
After a false start, due to adverse weather, Mike set about his dive from the sky earlier this month in memory of Henry Dog Bromberg.
Henry was born with a rare condition – Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome – which meant in time, he’d need a heart transplant.
Sadly he died whilst still waiting. He was a larger-than-life character, who captured the nation’s hearts by enduring his condition with bravery and optimism. He lived life to the full, packing more into 10 years than many of us do in a lifetime.
The money raised will go to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham which provided Henry’s parents Laura and Robert private accommodation adjacent to Birmingham Children’s Hospital while Henry was in their care.
Speaking after the skydive, Mike shared his memory of ‘one of the most special little boys I have ever known’.
“Henry was passionate about helping other people and was an ambassador for many charities. In his nine years he achieved wondrous things and always imparted the people he met with such a zest for life, bravery, and determination.
“In the words of Henry Dog: “Never ever ever give up!!’”.
On raising a whopping £1,870, he said: “The sky dive was the most intense, insane, terrifying and awesome thing I have done in my life. Super proud of myself and what I was able to raise for such an amazing cause.”
The directors at Hazelton Mountford, which has offices in Evesham and Worcester, match-funded the £935 from the sky dive to deliver a total of £1,870.
