More people using town’s Minor Injuries unit

Evesham Editorial 13th Jan, 2019   0

MORE people used the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) in Evesham last month compared with the same period in the previous year according to new figures from health chiefs

MIUs can treat minor burns, strains, sprains, grazes and small cuts and wounds. Average waiting times are just 20 minutes and they all have x-ray facilities although opening times for those vary from unit to unit.

There are five MIUs in Worcestershire; four run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust in Evesham, Malvern, Tenbury and Bromsgrove and the one at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre run by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Michelle Clarke, director of Nursing and Quality at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust said, “There has been a real push both locally and nationally to encourage people to know their options and to make appropriate decisions over where to access treatment.

“Our Minor Injury Units have trained nurses who have knowledge and skills to deal with a range of minor injuries so we are continuing to encourage people to make use of them when appropriate to do so.”
