WINDS of up to 70mph could hit parts of Worcestershire today (Friday) as Storm Barbara reaches the county, according to the Met Office.

The body has warned the public to expect strong winds between 12pm and 6pm and drivers have been told to expect difficult conditions.

The Met Office website says: “A short period of strong winds is expected to develop during Friday afternoon. Gusts of around 50-60 mph are likely in places, perhaps up to 70 mph in exposed locations. Some disruption to travel is possible.

“The sudden onset of strong, gutsy winds, along with a short period of heavy rainfall, has the potential to lead to difficult driving conditions during Friday afternoon. Exposed coastal routes are likely to be most prone to disruption.”

Storm Barbara is a deep depression that will move ashore from the Atlantic, bringing very windy and wet weather.

There will be severe gales in the north and west, and rain that will be heavy at times.
