THERE’S a perfect opportunity for art lovers to meet the Vale of Evesham’s creators this bank holiday weekend with the launch of the Avon Art Trail.

In the absence of the annual Worcestershire Open Studios event, six professional artists have come together to throw open their studios doors in the hope of welcoming visitors over the threshold.

The trail which began yesterday (Friday, August 23) and runs until Wednesday, August 28, takes art enthusiasts on a scenic journey through six picturesque villages surrounding the River Avon as it meanders through the Worcestershire countryside.

Participating artists are watercolourist Sian Thomas, from Eckington, abstract landscapist Di Shorleson from Fladbury, contemporary landscapist Laura Dunmow from Offenham, impressionist and fresco creator Hayley Reynolds from Blackminster and impressionist Jackie Cunliffe from Hinton.

The idea for the art trail was Jane Powell, a landscape artist from Charleton who is also taking part.

She said: “We are thrilled to launch the very first Avon Art Trail and invite art enthusiasts to come out and support us.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to see demonstrations, works in progress, and browse through sketchbooks, with original artworks, prints, and cards available for purchase directly from the artists.

“Our studios have been tidied and we are ready and waiting with paint brushes in hand.”

Everyone who completes the trail is eligible for a chance to win one of six original pieces of art donated by each of the participating artists.

Studios open daily from 10am to 4pm and there are pubs and cafes to stop for refreshments along the route.
