LET the festivities begin! The Christmas lights in Evesham and Pershore will be switched on later today.

Festivities will begin in both towns today when hundreds of residents are set to gather to get into the Christmas spirit.

In Evesham the festive cheer begins at midday when the Charter Market will be selling a host of Christmas gifts.

There will also be entertainment in the Market Place to get shoppers in the festive spirit with Christmas carols and live music throughout the afternoon.

Then from 3pm Father Christmas and his Reindeer will be visiting Evesham where he will parade up Bridge Street and into Market Place.

The first Evesham Light Festival will take place today with a torch lit lantern parade to light up the night sky.

The parade will begin at 4.30pm from the Evesham Rowing Club car park and will see lantern bearers follow a trail through Abbey Park and up to the Market Square to join the Christmas Lights switch on celebrations.

The countdown to the Christmas lights switch-on will then begin at 5.30pm. A fireworks display will follow the switch-on and a Rock ‘n’ Rollin’ Christmas sing-a-long.

In Pershore the festivities will begin at 2pm in St Andrew’s Gardens where residents will be able to park for free. The town’s Christmas lights will then be switched on at 4.45pm followed by a fireworks display.

Residents will also be able to begin their Christmas shopping with shops in the town staying open until 7.30pm.

Shoppers will be able to park for free at Christmas Lights switch-on events in the Vale as council chiefs lift the charges to entice more visitors.

All short-stay and long-stay car parks in Evesham and Pershore will be benefit from free parking from 2pm on Saturday as the festivities begin.

Parking charges in Broadway will also be lifted on Saturday, December 9 from 2pm to attract more visitors to the village’s Christmas shopping event.
