Kindness praised after appeal

Evesham Editorial 9th Dec, 2021   0

LABOUR party chiefs have praised the kindness of Evesham residents after another successful Caring Hands Christmas appeal for donations.

The collection of Christmas food items from the charity’s ‘shopping list’ of treats for families in need from the local community was organised in association with the Brew Bear Coffee House

Labour Party members delivered their contributions over the last week in November and then last Wednesday (December 1) saw a ‘cuppa and cake’ session held at the High Street venue to finalise the collection.

Mike Harland, the new chair of Evesham Labour Party, said: “We are really grateful for the generosity of members on behalf of this Evesham charity and to the staff of Brew Bear.

“We are united in wanting to see food banks as a thing of the past but until we have a government which can ensure secure, well-paid jobs for all workers and a more effective and less punitive welfare system, they unfortunately remain a necessity.2

Helen Russell, former Mid Worcestershire Labour parliamentary candidate, who helped to organise the event, added: “We hope these donations bring some joy at Christmas to local families who struggle to make ends meet.

“It was so good to see Labour members and supporters in person and not just on Zoom or social media.

“We plan in 2022 to resume regular face-to-face Labour events in Evesham after this long pandemic.’

Brew Bear Coffee House is a local collection point for all Caring Hands donations from local residents meaning both general food items and Christmas ‘treats’ can be left with them over the coming weeks.
