HEALTH and safety chiefs have launched an investigation after the death of a lorry driver at a fruit supply company in Evesham.

Mark Buttery, who is believed to be from Leeds, died last Tuesday (November 19) at the Primafruit base on Enterprise Way on the Vale Business Park.

West Mercia Police were called at 7.45am to a report of a man’s body being found at the business, which supplies fruit to Waitrose.

Officers have now handed the incident over to the Health and Safety Executive and an inquest will be held into Mr Buttery’s death next year.

In a statement, Primafruit said: “It is with great sadness we confirm the death of a man on site at the Primafruit facility in Evesham.

“An investigation by the police and the Health and Safety Executive has begun. We will, of course, do everything we can to help their enquiries.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the man’s family and friends,”

Friends of Mr Buttery have paid tribute to him on Facebook with one friend writing: “Such a horrific and cruel way to go, poor Mark.

“A good friend of 40 years, gutted. Rest in Peace.

Since opening its doors in 1981, Primafruit has been in the heart of Evesham and has expanded to include commercial offices, a packing factory, cold storage zones and dry goods storage areas.
