RE-ELECTED Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston has given his backing to Theresa May after the Conservatives lost their majority in Parliament.

His support for the Prime Minister followed calls for Mrs May to resign, not just from across the political spectrum, but from people inside her own party.

The Conservatives had a distraustrious election night. Predicted by the polls to increase their majority, the party lost 12 seats and their overall majority in the House of Commons.

Mrs May vowed to stay on and this lunchtime visited the Queen at Buckingham Palace to ask to form a minority government.

On the steps of 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister said the Conservatives will work with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionists Party to support her minority government.

Although the Conservatives had a disastrous night nationally, in Mid Worcestershire Nigel Huddleston increased his majority.

Speaking following his victory, Mr Huddleston said: “I am, of course, disappointed that nationally the Conservatives did not achieve the healthy majority that many of us had had hoped for.

“But, I am glad that Theresa May is planning to form a government – albeit a ‘minority’ government.”
