How a holiday of a lifetime for brave Josh is staff’s fund-raiser goal

STAFF at an estate and property agent are hosting a fund-raising weekend to help pay for a holiday of a lifetime for a young Badsey boy being treated for cancer.

Nine-year-old Josh Asbury was diagnosed with T-lymphoblastic lymphoma in November last year only a few weeks after recovering from Covid.

So far the brave youngster from Evesham has had CT scans, surgery on a collapsed lung, numerous biopsies, X-rays, blood tests and ultrasounds and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Staff at Sheldon Bosley Knight are holding a charity event next Friday and Saturday (April 1 and 2) to raise money for the family to go on a trip of a lifetime when Josh recovers.

It will feature a mixture of continuous running, cycling and walking in a relay between nine of the company’s 11 offices.

Starting at the Kenilworth office at 3pm, a team will run to the Leamington branch before handing over the baton to the next group who will be cycling to Stratford.

From there it will be a walk to the Kineton office before the next leg which is a run to Shipston.

From Shipston the team will cycle the seven miles to Chipping Campden before handing over to the next one who will walk through the night to get to Winchcombe.

The penultimate leg will see a cycle ride to Pershore in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It will finish with a walk between the Pershore and Evesham offices, due to arrive in Evesham at about 11am on Saturday.

So far, 30 members of staff from across the 11 offices have volunteered to take part in the relay.

Organiser Christian Cloke said: “Josh and his parents are well known to a number of us in the office and so when we heard what they were going through we knew we wanted to do something to help.

“They are all being so brave but it’s the worst nightmare of any parent, seeing your child so poorly and feeling powerless to help.

“We decided to involve the whole company in this fund-raising event so we could raise as much money as possible. The plan is to run, walk and cycle between our offices and so far 30 members of staff have signed up to either take part or volunteer to help.

“The target is £2,500 and we are determined to reach it so the family can go on a much-needed holiday when Josh has recovered, and put a smile on their faces again.

“The local community has also been so supportive of the family, with lots of other fund-raising taking place. It’s been great to see the whole community pulling together.”
