HARRIETT Baldwin will be seeking to retain her West Worcestershire seat after being re-selected to be the Conservative candidate for the snap June election.

At a meeting last Thursday (April 27), Mrs Baldwin, who was first elected to Parliament in 2010, was selected as the party’s candidate for the General Election on Thursday, June 8 by Conservative Party members in West-Worcestershire.

Under David Cameron’s premiership she served as a minister in the Treasury, before being reshuffled by Prime Minister Theresa May to Minister for Defence Procurement.

The West Worcestershire seat is seen as a Conservative stronghold and has been won by a Conservative candidate since the seat was created in 1997.

The Liberal Democrats have always been the Conservative’s main challengers in West Worcestershire, but they had their worst result in the seat back in 2015 when they finished in fourth.

Speaking after the meeting, Mrs Baldwin said: “It is an honour to be selected once again to contest the upcoming election to remain as the Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire.

“I am grateful, both for the support of the Conservative party members who selected me, but also the 30,000 people who voted for me at the last General Election.

“I backed Theresa May to be Prime Minister last year. I now welcome the decision to give people in West Worcestershire the chance to back her to deliver strong and stable leadership for our country on June 8.”
