THE GREEN Party have selected their candidate to fight the Mid Worcestershire seat in June’s snap General Election.

Fay Whitfield, a marketing account manager from Evesham, has been selected to stand in the Thursday, June 8 poll and has vowed to ‘give a voice to local people disenfranchised with politics.’

She will be hoping to improve on the party’s performance in Mid Worcestershire after their candidate in the 2015 election finished last – however the Greens did increase their vote share.

The Green’s fresh-faced candidate will be standing on a platform of increasing funding for schools in the constituency, returning public transport to public ownership and reversing privatisation of the NHS.

Other candidates vying to become Mid Worcestershire’s next MP are; Conservative Nigel Huddleston, Fred Grindrod for the Labour Party and Liberal Democrat candidate Margaret Rowley.

Speaking to the Observer, Fay said: “We stand for the next generation, but we need this generation to help us create a society that they deserve. This means returning to free education, cheap public transport and properly funded healthcare.

“They also deserve to have a planet that is not wrought with destruction that climate change will bring; have clean air that doesn’t kills tens of thousands every year; where their vote counts under Proportional Representation; not be left with a mountain of national debt and have access to clean and affordable energy.”

“Our citizens need people that we can look up to, people who set a good example, and people that we can trust to speak on our behalf. However, I don’t see this reflected in our current government and this is one of my main motivations for standing.

“I am standing for equality, transparency, the environment and democracy.

“Politicians twist the facts to suit them, they spend our taxes on expenses they don’t need, and because of our first past the post system we don’t have a government which represents the people it stands for. We no longer have a true democracy.”
