Free security bike marking sessions over half-term for cyclists in Droitwich, Evesham, Pershore and Broadway

CYCLISTS in Droitwich, Evesham, Pershore and Broadway can help protect their bikes from theft with the support of Wychavon’s community safety team.

Free bike marking drop-in sessions are being held across the district during the half-term break.

Bikes are marked with a unique code using a special liquid and then the number is then registered with the national BikeRegister database.

A warning sticker is applied to make it clear that the bike is marked. Thieves are less likely to target a marked bike because it will be easier for police to identify that it has been stolen and who it belongs to.

The first bike marking session takes place between 9.30am and 12pm next Monday, February 21, at Droitwich Leisure Centre with the next two sessions next Thursday, February 24 – the first is between 9.30am and 12pm at Evesham Leisure Centre and the second is from 1pm to 3pm at Russell Square in Broadway.

The last session will take place between 9.30am and 12pm on Friday, February 25, at Pershore Leisure Centre.

People do not need to book a place, they can just turn up at their chosen session.

Coun Rob Adams, Wychavon District Council’s Executive Board Member for Stronger Communities, Culture and Sport, said: “We’re proud to support safe cycling throughout Wychavon and would encourage cyclists to take advantage of these free bike marking sessions.”
