CHARITY chiefs at Help for Heroes are celebrating after being presented with a cheque for £1,000 from staff at Raphaels Restaurant.

The cash was raised from Hampton Ferry’s annual Christmas fayre and lights switch on which saw hundreds of people turn up to support this event with Coun Jo Sandalls representing Help for Heroes.

Entertainment was provided by the Avonbank Training Band and the Church of the Latter Day Saints choir at the event organised by Sue and Bryn Walling.

With ongoing donations being made through January a cheque for for £1,000 was recently presented to Ian Baldry of Help for Heroes.

Mr Baldry said: “Help for Heroes believes that those who put their lives on the line deserve a second chance at life.

“We provide lifetime support for the Armed Forces Community and are here to unleash the expert minds, skilled bodies and courageous hearts of veterans and their families.”

“On average seven members of the Armed Forces are being medically discharged every day. Almost two of the seven are specifically due to mental health.

“It takes the average veteran four years to come forward and seek help for mental related issues.”
