THE CHRISTMAS Christmas season is always a time for reflection, where we look back on the events of the past year and identify our hopes for the year ahead.
2017 has been a year of surprises with an unexpected election, an unanticipated result, and even a new Royal engagement.
Little did I know in January that in 2017 I would stand for re-election as Mid Worcestershire’s MP, three years before I expected.
The divisions that emerged last year remain and have unfortunately deepened following June’s election and as our Brexit negotiations continue.
But other events that have taken place this year, some tragic, have shown our capacity to unite in our collective grief and come together in times of need.
As we look forward to a Christmas of relaxation, fun and well-earned rest, we must think of those less fortunate than ourselves and for whom the festive season can be difficult.
I must also express my gratitude to the hard-working men and women in our armed forces and emergency services.
They all selflessly commit themselves to the protection of this country and its people, and sacrifice the opportunity to be with their loved ones over Christmas in order to keep us safe.
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous and happy new year.
Nigel Huddleston
Mid Worcestershire MP
