Egdon dog attack death: What we know so far

Evesham Editorial 31st Mar, 2022   0

AS INVESTIGATIONS continue into the death of a two-year-old Egdon toddler in a ‘truly tragic’ incident on Monday (March 28), here’s what we know so far:

After being injured by a dog at an address in Egdon, the little boy was initially taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by his family.

They were advised to divert to the Worcester Countryside Centre by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Police officers were called to the Countryside Centre to reports of the child in cardiac arrest at 11.20am on Monday.

He was transferred from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Monday evening where he passed away from his injuries.

West Mercia Police confirmed his passing at a press conference yesterday (Wednesday) but took no questions from reporters regarding the investigation.

Officers have confirmed three dogs have been removed from the property and are currently being housed securely.

Police have not yet confirmed the breed/s of the dogs but have constantly stated they don’t believe the animals are banned under the 1991 Dangerous Dog Act.

The attack came after a series of separate incidents in which children were seriously injured or killed by dogs, including a mauling in Cannock, Staffordshire, on Saturday.

An eight-year-old boy sustained serious injuries in the Cannock attack, with a girl and woman also hurt.

He remains in hospital with facial injuries and his condition has been described as critical.

Earlier this month, Bella-Rae Birch died after being mauled by her family’s pet dog in St Helens and Kyra Leanne King died after a dog attack at a Lincolnshire beauty spot.
