Colourful celebration of cycling coming to Evesham in June

A COLOURFUL new project is coming to the Vale of Evesham this summer as Vale Active Art takes to the streets.

Lots of decorated bicycles will be installed around Evesham and the surrounding area to create a trail for people to follow on foot or by bike. Each bike will be a unique piece of art created by a local group of budding artists and the organisers are now looking for people to take part.

The project is being put together by Cycle Evesham Vale who have been encouraging people to get out on their bikes and to make Evesham a great location for cycling since 2015.

They are working alongside Evesham Adventure Playground who recycle unloved bikes to make them useful again.

Local schools, youth groups, community groups and artists are being encouraged to adopt a bike and turn it into something wonderful for the exhibition.

Each group will be given a bike to take away and decorate using as much imagination and creative flair as they can find. They might use coloured paint, fabrics, string or wood.

The bike might take on a theme based on the Vale of Evesham or the Platinum Jubilee or maybe even turn it into an animal.

The bikes will be ready to be handed out by the beginning of April so anyone who wants to take part should get in touch with the organisers as soon as possible.

“We are really excited to be launching this project, which will be the first of its kind in the Vale of Evesham” said Marcus Mumford from Cycle Evesham Vale.

“It’ll be a great opportunity for local groups to come together to create something that really brightens up the town and show off their creative talents. It’ll be lots of fun for locals and visitors to walk and pedal round to try and see them all too.”

Local businesses can also get involved by sponsoring a bike and their donation will be distributed to local causes.

The exhibition will be in place from the beginning of June throughout the summer so residents and visitors can try and view them all in one day or take their time getting to one or two when they can.

The project will finish with a grand auction of all the bikes to allow people the chance to take away one of the amazing pieces of art.
